Tigresses thrash Malaysia in Commonwealth Games qualifier

DHAKA, Jan 18, 2022 (BSS) - Bangladesh Women's Cricket team made a good

start to the Commonwealth Games Women's Cricket Competition Qualifiers today,
thrashing hosts Malaysia by eight wickets at Kuala Lumpur.

Pacer Rumana Ahmed played a key role, claiming two wickets for just four
runs as Bangladesh restricted Malaysia for 49-9 in 20 overs. Bangladeshi
women then reached the winning mark with 53-2 in just eight overs.

Opener Shamima Sultana scored 28 to hasten the victory. Her fellow opener
Murshida Khatun made 14. But both of the openers fell in quick succession as
Malaysia denied Bangladesh to grab a 10-wicket victory.

Nur Arianna Natsya of Malaysia scalped both Bangladeshi wickets.

Earlier as Bangladesh put Malaysia into batting, Rumana was ably supported
by Suraiya Azmin who also took two wickets for seven runs. Salma Khatun,
Nahida Akter and Ritu Moni took one wicket apiece.

Only two Malaysian batters could reach double digit figures with opener
Winifred Duraisingha making highest 12. Mas Elysa scored 11.

Bangladesh later will take on Kenya, Scotland and Sri Lanka for the lone
remaining slot at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

Australia, Barbados, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and South
Africa are the seven teams to have already qualified for Birmingham.
