DHAKA, Dec 29, 2022 (BSS) - Awami League backed teachers under "Blue Panel" today swept Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA) election, bagging 14 out of 15 executive committee posts, including all key positions.

Blue panel's Prof Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan of Food and Nutrition Sciences Institute has been elected as DUTA president while Dr. Zeenat Huda of Sociology department as general secretary.

Prof Lutfor Rahaman of Statistics Department is the only person elected as Vice President from the Pro-BNP "White panel".
 
Prof Nizamul bagged 819 votes while his rival Prof ABM Obaidul Islam from White Panel secured 384 votes. Prof Zeenat bagged 712 votes while White Panel's Prof Dr Md Siddkur Rahman Khan of the White panel with 581 votes.

 Prof Dr. M. Masud Rahman of Finance Department and Dr Abu Khaled Mohammad Khademul Haque of Islamic History and Culture Department were elected treasurer and joint-secretary respectively.

Nine executive members elected from the "Blue" panel are Dr. Md. Ziaur Rahman, Dr AGM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, Dr. Mohammad Amzad Ali, Dr Chandra Nath Podder, Prof Dr Sharmin Musa, Prof Md Kamrul Hasan, Dr Sharif Akhtaruzzaman, Dr AKM Saiful Islam khan, Dr Md Maksudur Rahman and Prof Md Ali Akkas.

The Chief Election Commissioner Prof Dr. Sitesh C Bachar announced the result at Dhaka University Club this afternoon

Earlier, the voting was held from 10am to 2pm at the teacher's club on the campus.
