Govt takes steps to check violence against women, children: Hsanat Abdulla

DHAKA, Dec 22, 2022 (BSS) - Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord Implementation and Monitoring Committee Convener Abul Hasanat Abdullah today said the government has formulated effective programs to stop violence against women and children in society.

He said this as chief guest while exchanging views with women organizers of various levels at Seral of Agailjhara upazila in Barishal district. Local leaders, including president and general secretary, of upazila Awami League were present, among others.

"The maximum punishment for violence against women and children is death penalty. Ten social safety net programs are being implemented including Women Development Programme, Maternity Allowance for Poor Women and food security programme," Hasanat Abdulla added.

Abul Hasanat Abdulla said under the social safety net programme, widows and deserted and destitute women's allowance and rural maternity centers have included 100 percent of women in the programme.
A large number of distressed women and children have been given grants from the "Women and Children Welfare Fund" during the Covid-19 period.

He said that in every upazila of the country, including Barishal, a record number of development work is going on successfully in education, health, agriculture, electricity, communication and infrastructure sectors.

He urged all concerned to play a coordinated and responsible role to reach the benefits of these programs to the doorsteps of the people.

Hasanat Abdulla advised the leaders of women's organizations to undertake more welfare activities for the welfare of women and children at all levels of the area.

He assured all of supports from the government in this regard.
