DHAKA, Dec 18, 2022 (BSS) – United States Embassy spokesperson here said the US mission takes seriously all allegations of human rights violations while human rights are at the center of US foreign policy. 
 
The U.S. Embassy regularly meets with a wide variety of human rights organizations, said the spokesperson in light of various articles and statements surrounding US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas's meeting with “Mayer Dak” on December 14. 
 
Providing more information to the media in an email, the spokesperson said the U.S. Embassy had not received any prior communication from “Mayer Kanna” over the last several years. 
 
He said the U.S. Ambassador ended his prescheduled meeting with Mayer Dak on December 14 due to “security concerns”. ?
 
“We have raised this matter at the highest levels of the Bangladeshi government, as well as with the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, D.C.,” he wrote in the email.  
 
On December 15, Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen told media that the situation which the US Ambassador faced could not be seen as a "security threat".
 
He added that the incident would have no impact on Bangladesh-USA relations.
