CHATTOGRAM, Dec 12, 2022 (BSS)- Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said BNP has knocked down itself through resignation of its lawmakers from the parliament while trying to unseat the government.

 
“BNP has said that they will topple the government and Begum Khaleda Zia will run the country after December 10. But now, the party has knocked down itself coming to unseat the government. BNP thinks that the base of the government will be shaken if they resign from the House,” he said.
 
The minister said the secretariat of the parliament has issued a notification declaring the seats vacant on the day of their resignation. By-elections will be held there and now BNP will realize that what mistakes they have made, he added.
 
Hasan said this while addressing the triennial conference of Awami League Chattogram South district unit at Jimnesiam Ground in the port city
 
AL Presidium Member Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, MP, inaugurated the conference with AL Chattogram South district unit president Moslem Uddin Ahmed in the chair.
 
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader joined the conference virtually as the chief guest while joint general secretary Mahbubul-Alam Hanif addressed it as the key-speaker. General secretary of the unit Mafizur Rahman conducted it.
 
Hasan said, “The base of the Awami League is so much strong and you all know that if anyone pushes any strong wall then he or she falls down. The base of Awami League is deeply rooted. In fact, BNP itself has already fallen while pushing Awami League. So, if they push again, they will fall down again, even the head might get cracked."
 
He said BNP has claimed that they will give one-point demand on December 10. However, the most demands are customary while some are new and they have been raising those for long, he added.
 
He said the World Human Rights Day is on December 10. On the other hand, BNP has organized the rally on that day after many calculations, he added.
 
The minister said 15 unexploded cocktails, two lakh bottles of water, 160 bags of rice and cash Taka two lakh were recovered from their party office. In fact, BNP has declared to hold rally in Naya Paltan to carry out violence, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.
 
He said attempts were made to kill the AL president in the anti-dictatorship movement at Chattogram on January 24 in 1988. Thirty-two AL men were killed on that day, he added.
