World Soil Day observed in Habiganj

HABIGANJ, Dec 5, 2022 (BSS) - The World Soil Day-2022 was observed today in the district highlighting the importance of taking care of soil and conserving soil biodiversity.
 
The theme of this year's World Soil Day is 'Soils: Where Food Begins'.
 
The World Soil Day is observed annually on December 5 as a means to focus attention on the importance of healthy soil and advocate for the sustainable management of soil resources.
 
On the occasion of the day, a discussion was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner office today, organized by Resources Development Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ishrat Jahan addressed the function as the chief guest with Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Md. Noore Alam Siddiqui in the chair.

The chief guest said, 'we have to be more careful towards the soil in order to protect agriculture and environment, for this requires massive awareness-raising and everyone has to work in this regard from their own responsibility'.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Sarbik Mintu Chowdhury and Executive Magistrate Shoaib Shat Eel Ivan, among others, spoke on the function.

Senior Scientific Officer of Soil Resources Institute of Sylhet Dr. Tapan Kumar Saha presented the keynote speech.
