RANGPUR, July 8, 2022 (BSS) - Rangpur division recorded 16.74 percent Covid-19 positivity rate as 36 fresh cases, highest number in a day in recent months, were diagnosed after testing 215 new samples on Thursday.
 
Health officials said increasing numbers of new Covid-19 cases have been reported almost everyday since June 22 last in the division where the third wave of the lethal virus is continuing now.
 
The 36 new Covid-19 patients diagnosed on Thursday include 16 from Rangpur, two from Panchagarh, 13 from Nilphamari, three from Thakurgaon and one each from Dinajpur Gaibandha districts in the division.
 
"With the diagnosis of the 36 fresh cases, the total number of Covid-19 patients rose to 64,340 in the division," Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam told BSS today.
 
The total number of recovered Covid-19 patients remained steady at 62,785 as no more patients healed during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today.
 
The number of casualties also remained steady at 1,284 as no new death was reported during the last 24 hours.  
 
Meanwhile, more 10,258 doses of Covid-19 jabs were administered on Thursday raising the number of inoculated vaccines to two crore 98 lakh 52 thousand and 399 doses in the division.
 
"Till Thursday, a total of 1,35,58,560 people got the first doses of Covid-19 jabs, and of them, 1,29,23,319 got the second doses and 33,70,520 got the booster doses," Dr. Islam added.
 
He especially called upon people urged citizens to sincerely abide by the health directives and hygiene rules as the pandemic situation is deteriorating everyday in the division.
