Independence and National Day celebrated in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, March 27, 2022 (BSS) - The Great Independence and National Day was
celebrated in the district with due respect and taking fresh vow to build a
happy, prosperous and peaceful Bangladesh on Saturday.

Marking the day, district administration, various cultural organizations,
political parties and educational institutions chalked out the elaborate
programmes.

The day was heralded with 31 gun salutes at Independence Square of the town
here at the time of sun rising and national flag was hoisted atop all public
and private buildings just after sun rise.

The day's programme began through placing wreaths by district administration,
police force, district Muktijoddha Sangshad, district Awami League (AL), and
other political parties, district Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA),
educational institutions and socio-cultural organizations at the monument of
the Poura Park in the town with sun rise.

Whip of the Jatiya Sangshad Mahabub Ara Begum Gini, deputy commissioner (DC)
Md. Oliur Rahman, superintendent of police (SP) Muhammad Towhidul Islam,
leaders of district Awami League and its front organizations placed wreaths
at the monument.

Later, an impressive march past by police, ansar, VDP, BNCC, scouts, students
of Govt. Shishu Paribars, school and colleges was held at the local stadium
at 9.00 am.

The DC and the SP took salute as the chief guest and special guest
respectively.

The district administration in cooperation with Zilla Parishad (ZP) accorded
reception to the freedom fighters and the members of martyred families at the
stadium at 11.00 am with the DC in the chair.

Local lawmaker Mahbub Ara Begum Gini addressed the function as the chief
guest and chairman of Zila Parishad Ataur Rahman Sarker, SP Muhammad Towhidul
Islam, general secretary of district Awami League Abu Bakar Siddique,
chairman of Sadar upazila Parishad Shah Sarwar Kabir, mayor of Gaibandha
Municipality Matlubour Rahman, were present at the event as the special
guests.

The function was also addressed among others by former commander of
Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, district command unit, Mahmudul Haque
Shajada, former deputy commander Goutam Chandra Modok, freedom fighters
Mojammel Haque Mondal, Shah Shariful Islam Bablu and Ali Akbar Miah.

The programmes also included children's art and essay writing competitions on
Liberation war organized by Bangladesh Shishu Academy and documentary film
show arranged by District Information Office.

A charity football match between district administration eleven and Gaibandha
Pourashabha and arrangement of sports and games for the women organized by
Mohila Krira Sangstha were also held on the occasion.

Special prayers were offered in mosques and temples and improved diets were
also served in the hospitals, jail and orphanages marking the day.

Similar programmes were also held in other six upazila headquarters of the
district marking the day.
