BAGERHAT, June 2, 2026 (BSS) - A discussion meeting and prayer mahfil were held in Bagerhat on the occasion of the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) founder and former President, martyred President Ziaur Rahman. 

The program was organized at the Zilla Parishad auditorium on Tuesday afternoon at the initiative of the District Jubo Dal. 

The speakers at the program highlighted the political life of martyred President Ziaur Rahman, his contribution to  the  nation building and nationalist ideals. At the same time, they called on the leaders and activists to work unitedly to make BNP stronger and better organized. 

Speaking as the chief guest, District BNP Member Secretary Sheikh Muzaffar Rahman Alam said that Shaheed Ziaur Rahman was an unforgettable leader of Bangladesh's independence and democracy.  Everyone should work to establish the rights of the people of the country by embracing his ideals.

The meeting was also addressed by District BNP Joint Convener Sheikh Shamsher Ali Mohan, Khadem Niyamul Nasir Alap, District BNP Member Khan Monirul Islam, Sardar Wahidul Islam Paltu, Advocate Monirul Islam, Municipal BNP President Sheikh Shahed Ali Robi, Sadar Upazila BNP President Syed Nasir Ahmed Malek and  former student leader Sheikh Moen Uddin, 

Municipal BNP General Secretary Syed Obaidul Islam Jewel, District Chhatra Dal President Molla Atiqur Rahman Russell, Swechchhasebak Dal Member Secretary Dalim Fakir, Krishak Dal Joint Convener Golam Rasul Tarafdar Newaz, Ulema Dal Member Secretary Maulana Zahidul Islam, also spoke. 

After the discussion meeting,  a doa mahfil and munajat were offered seeking  forgiveness for the soul of martyred President Ziaur Rahman.
