RAJSHAHI, Aug 4, 2026 (BSS) - A discussion and cultural programme has been held in the city to highlight the heroism, sacrifices and aspirations for a new Bangladesh embodied in the 2024 July Mass Uprising.
 
The Rajshahi District Shilpakala Academy organized the event titled 'July in Songs' on Monday evening at its auditorium with support from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
 
Additional Deputy Commissioner Belayet Hossain attended the programme as the chief guest, while District Cultural Officer Dr Farukur Rahman Faisal delivered the welcome address.
 
Speakers included Director of Rajshahi Divisional Ethnic Minority Cultural Academy Harendranath Singh, Joint Convener of Rajshahi District Jubo Dal Aranya Kusum, and Member Secretary of JASAS Rajshahi Metropolitan Selim Reza.
 
In his speech, Belayet Hossain said the July Mass Uprising is not just a movement; it is a symbol of people's rights, justice and democratic aspirations.
 
He said culture and music can play an important role in conveying this history to the new generation.
 
Dr Farukur Rahman Faisal emphasized the importance of keeping history alive through culture. He said the main objective of the event was to present the history of July's sacrifice, struggle and patriotism to the new generation.
 
Harendranath Singh said art and culture awaken human consciousness. By embracing the spirit of July, the cultural movement can play an important role in building a humane, non-communal and prosperous Bangladesh.
 
Aranya Kusum said the nation will never forget the sacrifice of the July martyrs. Everyone must work together to build the Bangladesh of their dreams.
 
Selim Reza said the history of the July Uprising should be passed on to the new generation through songs, poetry and cultural activities so that they remain aware of the country's democratic struggle.
 
After the discussion, local artists performed patriotic and inspirational songs based on the July Uprising.
 
Representatives of various cultural organizations, artists, students, journalists and cultural enthusiasts attended the event.
