Road accident victims' families receive financial aid in Jhenidah

JHENIDAH, Aug 4, 2026 (BSS) - Families of those killed and injured in road accidents in Jhenidah have received financial assistance totaling Taka 1.19 crore from the Trustee Board of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) to help ease their financial hardship.

The cheque distribution ceremony was jointly organized by the Jhenidah District Administration and the BRTA Jhenidah Circle at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office on Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Md. Noman Hossain presided over the event.

A total of 31 beneficiaries received financial grants. Among them, the families of 19 road accident victims who lost their lives were  provided Taka 500,000 each, amounting to Taka 95 lakh, while 12 injured victims received a combined Taka 24 lakh. In total, financial assistance of Taka 1.19 crore was distributed.

Addressing the function, the Deputy Commissioner said that no amount of money could compensate for the loss suffered by a family due to a road accident. However, he said, the government's financial assistance reflects its sincere commitment to standing beside the affected families during difficult times.

He urged all road users to comply with traffic laws, exercise caution while driving and work collectively to ensure safer roads.

"The prevention of road accidents requires responsible behavior from drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and all other stakeholders. Strict compliance with traffic regulations can significantly reduce road crashes," he added.

Speaking at the programme, Debashish Biswas, Assistant Director of the BRTA Jhenidah Circle, said that the BRTA Trustee Board has been providing regular financial support to families affected by road accidents. Eligible applicants receive grants after their applications are verified through the prescribed process.
