Two accused in Jubo Dal leader murder case arrested, firearm recovered in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 3, 2026 (BSS) - Detective Branch (DB) Police in Chattogram have arrested two associates of alleged top criminal Raihan in connection with the murder of Jubo Dal leader Maksudul Haque Chowdhury and recovered firearms.

The police made the recoveries based on the information given by the arrestees.

The firearms include a foreign-made pistol, a magazine and two rounds of ammunition.

Chattogram Superintendent of Police Md. Masud Alam disclosed the information today during a press conference.

He said Rangunia Upazila Jubo Dal Vice-President Maksudul Haque Chowdhury was shot dead in daylight in the Pahartali area of Raozan on June 13. 

Following the incident, investigators identified those involved in the killing through analysis of CCTV footage, technological evidence and intelligence information.

As part of the investigation, a special checkpoint was set up in the Shitalpur area of SitakundaUpazila on Sunday evening, where police arrested two accused named in the case -- Md. Didar Alam, 30, and Md. Afsar Mia, 30.

The police superintendent said the arrestees, during preliminary interrogation, admitted involvement in organised criminal activities, extortion and establishing dominance in the area.

Acting on information provided by the suspects, police conducted a raid in the Jurerkul area of Raozan Upazila late Sunday night and recovered a foreign-made pistol, one magazine and two rounds of 7.65-calibre ammunition that had been concealed underground.

According to police, Didar Alam is facing 10 cases, including charges of murder, illegal arms possession, extortion and other criminal offences, while Afsar Mia is facing six cases involving similar allegations.

Police also said the investigation has found information linking the two accused to several other high-profile crimes in Chattogram metropolitan area and the district.
