Security tightened across Dhaka ahead of July Uprising Day

DHAKA, Aug 4, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has adopted extensive and multi-layered security measures across the capital to ensure public safety and maintain law and order during the observance of July Mass Uprising Day tomorrow.

According to a DMP press release issued today, security has been significantly strengthened to prevent any acts of sabotage, untoward incidents or threats to public safety.

As part of the security plan, police pickets and checkpoints have been increased across Dhaka, with intensified vehicle searches and screening operations at all major entry points to the capital.

The DMP said personnel from the Detective Branch (DB) and the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit will remain deployed in plain clothes at key venues. Special security sweeps will also be conducted at locations expected to witness large public gatherings by SWAT, the Bomb Disposal Unit and the Dog Squad.

Authorities have brought all event venues and the July Memorial area under enhanced surveillance through CCTV cameras and drone monitoring.

Intelligence teams from CTSB and IAD will also remain active in plain clothes to monitor the overall security situation.

To respond swiftly to any emergency, adequate Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have been kept on standby throughout the city.

In addition to regular police deployment, extra DMP personnel, alongside members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), will jointly work to ensure security across the capital.

Senior police officials will remain on the ground to directly supervise security operations throughout the observance of the day.
