KHULNA, June 2, 2026 (BSS) – Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-6 have arrested two fugitives accused in the sensational murder case of Rikta Akter, who was allegedly subjected to torture and killed by her in-laws over dowry in Faridpur's Boalmari upazila.
According to a RAB-6 press release, a team of the elite force's Headquarters Company (Bhatiapara Camp), acting on a tip-off, conducted separate drives in Kashiani Bazar area and Bhatraidhoba area under Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj district late last night and arrested the two accused.
The arrestees were identified as Jewel Mir, 28, son of Jalal Mir, and Riba Begum, 47, wife of Jalal Mir, both residents of Boalmari upazila in Faridpur district.
RAB said Jewel Mir is the husband of the victim Rikta Akter, while Riba Begum is her mother-in-law.
According to the case statement, the victim had allegedly been subjected to repeated physical and mental torture by her husband and other family members over dowry since her marriage.
Despite enduring abuse, Rikta Akter continued living with her husband's family for the sake of her only child, the statement said.
On February 23, 2023, Rikta Akter died under suspicious circumstances following prolonged torture.
Subsequently, Hafez Akram Matubbar, the victim's brother-in-law, filed a murder case with Boalmari Police Station against the arrested accused and several others.
RAB said the two accused were wanted as the principal fugitives in the case.
The arrested persons have been handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action, the release added.
