JHENAIDAH, May 29, 2026 (BSS) - A motorcyclist was killed after being run over by a bus in front of the Central Shaheed Minar Square in the town this afternoon.

Deceased Araz Ali, 18, was son of Liton Hossain of Kalukhali village in Kotchandpur upazila.

Police and locals said while crossing lanes on the road in front of the Shaheed Minar square, a bus ran over the motorcycle, leaving Ali dead on the spot.

Later, firefighters recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital.

Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Asaduzzaman said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

The bus involved in the accident has been seized and kept at the police station as legal action will be taken regarding the incident, he said.

Earlier, a minor child named Meem Khatun, 3, was killed after being hit by a moving auto-van in Goshaidanga village under Sarutia Union of the Shailkupa upazila around 11am today.

Deceased Meem was the daughter of Kabir Hossain of the same village.

According to police and locals, Meem was playing beside the road in front of her house. At that time, a passenger-carrying auto-van lost control and hit the child.

As the child was crushed under the wheels of the auto-van, family members rescued her in critical condition and took her to Shailkupa Upazil Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shailkupa Police Station Humayun Kabir Molla confirmed the incident, saying legal action will be taken in this regard.
