KHULNA, May 28, 2026 (BSS)- Holy Eid-ul-Azha was celebrated across Khulna today with due religious solemnity, festivity and enthusiasm, like elsewhere in the country.
On the occasion, national flags were hoisted atop government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings at sunrise, while major roads and intersections in the city were decorated with banners inscribed with Eid greetings in Bangla and Arabic.
The main Eid congregation was held at the Khulna Town Jame Mosque at 7:00 am with Mufti Abdur Razzaq leading the prayers.
The second and third congregations were held at the same venue at 8:00 am and 9:00 am respectively.
Among others, Khulna-2 constituency lawmaker Advocate Sheikh Jahangir Hossain Helal, Khulna City Corporation Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju, Divisional Commissioner Md Abdullah Harun, city BNP President SM Shafiqul Alam Mona, and city Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Professor Mahfuzur Rahman joined the main congregation along with senior government officials, political leaders and a large number of devotees.
Special prayers were offered after the namaj seeking peace, prosperity and progress of the country, nation and the Muslim Ummah. Worshippers later exchanged Eid greetings with each other.
Eid congregations were also held at the Model Mosque adjacent to Khulna Alia Madrasa at 7:30 am and at Noornagar Metropolitan Model Mosque at 7:15 am.
Separate Eid jamaats were arranged at mosques and Eidgahs in all 31 wards of the city under the initiative of Khulna City Corporation.
Apart from these, Eid prayers were held at different mosques and Eidgahs across the city.
On the occasion, special meals were served at government hospitals, jails, children’s homes, social welfare centres, safe homes, shelters and welfare institutions for destitute people.
The Khulna station of Bangladesh Betar aired special programmes marking the occasion, while local newspapers published special Eid supplements.
Similar programmes were also observed in different upazilas of the district.
