CHANDPUR, Feb 17, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced two men to life
imprisonment for killing a man in Kachua upazila of the district in 2018 over
a dispute regarding money sent from abroad.
Senior District and Sessions Judge Shamsunnahar handed down the verdict
against Md. Mosharraf Hossain, 35, and Md. Yasin, 37. The court also fined
them Taka 50,000 and an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment in
case of default.
According to prosecution, Keramat Ali, 58, a resident of Panchdhara village
in Bitara union of the upazila, was fatally injured on August 23, 2018.
According to the case details, a confrontation broke out between Keramat
Ali's family and the accused over the payment of money sent abroad. During
the altercation, Mosharraf allegedly attacked the victim's younger son, Al-
Amin. When Keramat Ali intervened to protect his son, he was struck on the
head by Yasin with a wooden object.
He was initially treated at two local hospitals before being transferred to
Nawabpur Tower Hospital in Cumilla, where he was pronounced dead around 7 pm.
Following the incident, Keramat Ali's son, Md. Jasim Uddin, filed a case with
Kachua Police Station naming seven individuals as accused.
After an investigation led by then Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Mamunur Rashid
Sarkar Mamun, the charge-sheet was submitted to the court on February 12,
2019.
During the trial, the court recorded testimony from 20 witnesses. Based on
the evidence, the court found Mosharraf and Yasin guilty. While Yasin was
present during the verdict, Mosharraf remained absconding. The remaining five
accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
