TANGAIL, Feb 17, 2026 (BSS) - The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) today launched its nationwide truck sale programme in Tangail to provide essential commodities at subsidised prices ahead of the holy Ramadan.
Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shahin Mia formally inaugurated the programme at Shahid Smriti Municipal Park in the district town this morning.
Speaking at the inauguration, the UNO said the initiative was taken to ensure that lower-income people can purchase essential items at affordable prices during Ramadan.
Under the programme, TCB trucks will sell commodities in all 18 wards of Tangail municipality area as well as at different points across 12 unions under Sadar upazila. The initiative will continue until March 12.
Buyers queued up from early morning to collect items including edible oil, sugar, chickpeas, lentils and dates at prices lower than the open market. While expressing satisfaction over the subsidised rates, several consumers urged the authorities to maintain proper management during the sale to avoid inconvenience.
Welcoming the government's initiative, Abu Zubayer Uzzal, general secretary of the Tangail district unit of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), said controlling the market during Ramadan would be a major challenge for the new government.
He called for stronger market monitoring and enhanced surveillance so that the intended beneficiaries can avail the essential commodities smoothly throughout the fasting month.
