RAJSHAHI, Feb 16, 2026 (BSS)- The Rajshahi Central Shaheed Minar is now
awaiting inauguration. For the first time, a central Shaheed Minar has been
constructed in Rajshahi.
The monument has been built on a previously designated area of around one
acre at the site of the old Survey Institute in Rajshahi.
Milton, a resident of Rajshahi, said that people usually go to Rajshahi
College to lay flowers in memory of the martyrs, which often causes
inconvenience. Considering this, the long-cherished expectation of the
residents of Rajshahi is about to be fulfilled.
According to the Zila Parishad, construction work on the Rajshahi Central
Shaheed Minar in the city has already been completed. It is now only awaiting
formal inauguration.
The monument was constructed at a cost of approximately Taka 78 million under
the initiative of the Zila Parishad.
Earlier, on December 16, 2020, the foundation stone of the Central Shaheed
Minar was laid under the management of Rajshahi City Corporation.
City residents hope that embodying the spirit of the Language Movement, this
Central Shaheed Minar will become an important symbol of respect,
remembrance, and inspiration for future generations.
On Monday, Rajshahi Zila Parishad Chief Executive Officer Umme Fatima said
that a discussion meeting has been arranged on Tuesday regarding the matter.
A decision may come to open the Central Shaheed Minar to the public on
Language Martyrs' Day.
However, publicity and inauguration arrangements will be handled by the
district administration.
