SYLHET, Feb 16, 2026 (BSS) – Golam Iahia Chowdhury (Suhel) and Md. Zobayer Bakth Zubair have been elected president and general secretary, respectively, of Sylhet District Bar Association.
Chief Election Commissioner Advocate Md. Saifull Alom announced the results early this morning.
He was supported by Assistant Election Commissioners Advocate Md. Abdullah Al-Helal and Advocate Md. Kawsar Jubair.
The voting process was held on Sunday from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM at Hall No. 2 of the association.
According to the election records, 1,334 lawyers cast their votes out of a total of 1,665 eligible voters. This year, 58 candidates contested for 24 different positions.
As per the results, Golam Iahia Chowdhury (Suhel) secured the presidency with 574 votes, while Md. Zobayer Bakth Zubair won the General Secretary post with 348 votes.
Other key elected officials include Senior Vice President Panna Lal Das (438 votes), Vice President Abdus Soeb Ahmed (510 votes), Joint Secretary-1 Md. Abdul Mukit Opi (313 votes), Joint Secretary-2 Md. Hedayet Hossain Tanbir (488 votes), Sports and Social Welfare Secretary Mohammad Moinul Islam (581 votes) and Library Secretary Syed Ferdous Ahmed (728 votes).
Women's Affairs Secretary Sayeda Helen Begum was elected uncontested.
Additional winners for various secretarial and assistant roles include Debabrata Chowdhury Liton (689 votes), Chumki Purkayastha (678 votes), Abul Kalam Azad Ripon (597 votes), Nazmul Islam (578 votes), Sonia Jerin Chowdhury (662 votes), Md. Zahidul Haque Javed (920 votes), Md. Owaish Kuruni Uzzal (694 votes), and Ziaul Haque Mostak (672 votes).
Furthermore, seven lawyers were elected as members of the Executive Committee. They are Md. Irfannuzaman (899 votes), Md. Atiqur Rahman (895 votes), A.S.M. Abdul Gafur (872 votes), Md. Anwar Hossain (869 votes), A.K.M. Fakhrul Islam (857 votes), Mohammad Jewel (840 votes), and Md. Obaidur Rahman (822 votes).
