Man held with firearms, ammunition in Jashore

JASHORE, Nov 30, 2025 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of Police has arrested a man with a cache of foreign firearms, ammunition and narcotics during a special late-night operation in Sadar upazila here.

Police recovered five 7.65 mm foreign pistols, 10 pistol magazines, 50 round of bullet and 4.5 kilograms of marijuana from a hidden compartment inside the suspect’s home in Madhugram around 1.45 am.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Syed Rafiqul Islam revealed the details at a press briefing on Sunday afternoon.

The arrested individual was Liton Gazi, 38, son of Noor Islam Gazi, a resident of Madhugram of the upazila.

According to SP Rafiqul Islam, a DB team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Abul Bashar conducted a raid at the village and recovered the contraband items concealed in a specially designed box bed in Gazi’s bedroom.

During primary interrogation, Liton reportedly confessed that the weapons had been smuggled from India and were intended to be transported to Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar.

Police also stated that Liton Gazi is already accused in three previous drug-related cases.

A new case under the Arms Act and Narcotics Control Act is being filed, and further legal action is underway, confirmed DB Officer-in-Charge Md. Manjurul Haque Bhuiyan.
