Home adviser asks new BGB recruits to uphold the force's image

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 14, 2026 (BSS) – Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) today called on newly recruited Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members to uphold the force’s image by embodying discipline, professionalism and the core values of the organisation.

“Honesty, intelligence, reliability, loyalty and enthusiasm are the criteria for the discipline and professional skills of a force… The new soldiers will uphold the tradition of the force by reflecting these qualities,” he told the concluding parade and oath-taking ceremony of 104 batch of the new BGB recruits this morning here.

Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, also in charge of the Adviser to the Ministry of Agriculture, was speaking as the chief guest, at the ‘Bir Uttam Mujibur Rahman Parade Ground’ of the BGB training Institute- ‘Border Guard Training Center and College (BGTC&C)’ at Baitul Izzat of Satkania here. 

The Home Advisor said this 230-year-old traditional force has become a well-organized, smart, disciplined and professional patriotic force over the course of time. 

He said as the ‘Watchful Guard of the Border’ of the country, the BGB is playing an effective role in safeguarding the integrity of the motherland by ensuring security within the 4,427 km long frontiers. 

The BGB has been able to earn the trust of the countrymen by performing its noble tasks with efficiency and professionalism in preventing smuggling, drugs and human trafficking, suppressing any cross-border crime, assisting the civil administration for maintaining the country's internal law and order,  and dealing with disasters, the adviser also mentioned. 

Addressing the newly recruited BGB soldiers, the Home Adviser said, “Discipline is the ornament of a soldier's life.... A real soldier is one who never backs down from carrying out orders and duties.”

He called upon the new soldiers to remain vigilant in fulfilling the great responsibility of protecting the sovereignty and integrity of the country being imbued with the BGB’s four basic principles - - 'morale, brotherhood, discipline and efficiency', and fulfilling the duties assigned to the BGB in an orderly manner. 

Referring to the upcoming general polls, the Home Adviser said about 8.17 lakh security personnel will be engaged to successfully holding the elections.

“As many as 37,353 members of the BGB will be deployed at some 467 upazilas across the country,” he added.

The adviser lauded the brilliant parade displayed by the BGB recruits and wished them continued success in every aspect of their respective careers.

Stating that BGTC&C has been training BGB recruits for the past 44 years and developing them as 'Alert Guards of the Border', the adviser said since Independence, a total of 72 batches have been successfully trained in the training centre. 

In the 104th recruit batch, 3023 recruits (2950 male, 73 female) were provided basic training over a period of about four months. 

Under the guidance of the current interim government and the direct supervision of the BGB headquarters, this challenging training has been completed by establishing the necessary infrastructure and management. 

The home advisor congratulated the best recruits in the 104th recruit batch. Recruit Al Imran (155) secured the first place as the best recruit in all subjects.  

In addition, Shapikul Islam (2769) and Lubna Khatun (1515) won first place in physical excellence and Shafiqur Rahman Tamim (1347) and Nahida Akhter (1531) won the best firer. 

The adviser thanked and congratulated all concerned, including the BGB Director General for the aesthetic parade and successful holding the event. 

In the closing parade, an attractive trick drill was performed by the trained members of the BGB and a beautiful band was displayed by the well-equipped band of the force.

He wished for the continued progress of BGB and all-round success of the new soldiers. 

The parade was declared over by the armed salute given by the smart group of new soldiers to the home adviser. 

Earlier, the chief guest inspected and greeted the new soldiers during the oath-taking and training completion parade. 

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Dr Nasimul Gani, BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui and Commandant of BGTC&C, among others, were present on the occasion.
