DHAKA, Aug 30, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, MP, has warned that there will be no place for drug dealers or criminals in the BNP.

He made the remarks while addressing a programme at Chunkutia Girls’ School and College in South Keraniganj here yesterday, where he distributed sports equipment as the chief guest.

Attempts are often made to cover up crimes by invoking the political identity of an accused person or drug dealer, he said, adding that no one can be involved in drug trading while being affiliated with the BNP led by its Chairman Tarique Rahman.

“Therefore, political will alone is not enough to resolve this problem. A strong social movement must be built in every area involving elders and ordinary people,” he said.

He added that if parents and communities develop effective social resistance against drugs and crime, the administration would also be able to take legal action more quickly.

Addressing the parents, he urged them to pay attention not only to their children’s studies but also to their interests and inclinations.

“Sports, music and theatre are not bad things. Encourage your children to develop their individual talents so that they can earn a good reputation in the country and across the world,” he said.

Criticising the previous government, Gayeshwar said, “The present government is facing some pressure on its financial resources due to the burden of foreign debt and corruption left behind by the previous fascist government. As a result, the pace of development work may slow down somewhat. But we will not surrender to any irregularity or conspiracy.”

Referring to the 2018 general election, he said, “The political culture of coming to power without votes must be buried forever.”
“The politics and leadership of the future will be determined through the votes of the people,” he added.
BNP leader and Member of Parliament for a reserved women’s seat, Advocate Nipun Roy Chowdhury, was present at the programme as the special guest.

At the end of the programme, sports equipment allocated by the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was formally handed over to representatives of various local schools, colleges and sports organisations.

Local dignitaries, teachers, students and representatives of civil society attended the programme.
