DHAKA, Aug 30, 2026 (BSS) - Newly appointed Managing Director (MD) and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Muhammad Kader Gani Chowdhury today voiced optimism to transform the national news agency into a world-class news outlet by upholding the pursuit of truth, objectivity and the highest standards of professionalism.

He expressed the hope at a felicitation ceremony, organized by journalists, officials and employees of the BSS, at its headquarters here after formally assuming charge this morning.

Earlier, the new BSS managing director submitted his joining letter to Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana at her office at Bangladesh Secretariat. Principal Information Officer (PIO) Syed Abdal Ahmed accompanied him to the BSS office.

Kader Gani Chowdhury said BSS has a highly talented and skilled team of journalists. "If we work honestly, based on truth and professionalism, BSS will earn reputation not only in Bangladesh but also internationally and reach new heights. We must take this organization to international standards," he added.

Emphasizing the importance of impartiality in news reporting, the BSS MD said journalism is the pursuit of truth - calling a spade a spade. 

"Our responsibility is only to the state and the people of this country, not to any political party, group or individual interest. All members of the BSS family will work together for the welfare of the state and the people," he said.

Calling for a cordial working environment, he said, "Do not think of me as your MD or Chief Editor; I am one of your colleagues. As a professional journalist, I want to work shoulder to shoulder with you. There is no room here for personality cults or displays of power. Just as a beautiful garland is woven from flowers of different colors, I want to build a professional and harmonious BSS family by bringing everyone together."

Speaking at the event, Syed Abdal Ahmed said BSS was once a highly vibrant and influential institution as exclusive interviews with international personalities, VVIPs and heads of state from home and abroad, as well as quality reports, used to be published by the news agency and carried by all major national newspapers. 

"That legacy should be restored," he said.

Ahmed said having an experienced journalist leader and an efficient organizer at the helm of BSS is a great opportunity for the organization. "Our primary identity is that we are journalists," he said.

Earlier, upon his arrival, BSS journalists, officers and employees warmly welcomed the managing director and chief editor with flowers.

BSS unit of the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), central leaders of the DUJ and BSS Employees Union also congratulated him.

BSS City Editor and Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) former President Mursalin Nomani moderated the function. 

DUJ President Shohidul Islam, General Secretary Khurshid Alam, Jatiya Press Club General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan, BSS Managing Editor (in-charge) Md. Fazlul Huq, DUJ BSS Unit Chief and Chief Reporter (Bangla) Md Didarul Alam and Deputy Unit Chief and Chief Reporter (English) GM Rajib Hossain also spoke.
