Afzal Naser placed on 3-day remand in Delwar murder case

DHAKA, April 17, 2026 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today placed Md Afzal Naser on a three-day remand in a case filed over the killing of 40-year-old Delwar Hossain in Mirpur during the July uprising.

Police produced him before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court and sought a five-day remand for further investigation.

After hearing the petition, Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam granted a three-day remand.

Afzal Naser was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police from a residence in Mirpur DOHS on March 30.

As per the case documents, victim Delwar Hossain joined a demonstration at Mirpur-10 on July 19, 2024, in support of the anti-discrimination student movement.

Several hundred activists of the Awami League and its associate bodies opened fire indiscriminately on protesters during the demonstration, leaving Delwar critically injured.

He was taken to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and later shifted to a hospital in Shyamoli, where he died on July 21.

Victim's wife Liza filed the case with Mirpur Model Police Station on July 6, 2025.
