President urges ACC to take stern action against the corrupt regardless of power, status

DHAKA, Sept 10, 2026 (BSS) - President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today urged the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to take stern action against corrupt individuals without considering their influence, status or power.

“No matter how influential a corrupt person is, they must be brought to justice through impartial and fair investigation,” he said. 

He made the call when a delegation led by ACC Chairman Justice A. K. M. Asaduzzaman paid a courtesy call on the President at Bangabhaban this afternoon, said President’s Press Secretary Md. Sarwar Alam in a briefing.

During the meeting, the ACC chairman apprised the President of the overall activities and initiatives of the commission, and existing problems and challenges in discharging its responsibilities.

He also sought the President’s cooperation in making the commission’s activities more effective in combating corruption.

The President said corruption has now become one of the major problems in the country due to long-standing misrule, irregularities and lack of accountability.

“The progress and bright future of the nation depend on preventing and controlling corruption. The ACC must continue working with honesty and courage to combat corruption,” he added.

The President also urged the ACC to expedite the legal disposal of a large number of long-pending cases and reduce delays in the process.

He particularly mentioned the need for prompt inquiries and stern action in cases of serious corruption.

Assuring the commission of all-out cooperation, the President stressed the need to further strengthen public awareness and campaign activities to build anti-corruption values.

Other members of the delegation included Commissioner (Investigation) Dr. Zahangir Alam Khan, Commissioner (Inquiry) Dr. Md Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan and Secretary Md. Saidur Rahman Khan.

The President’s military secretary, secretary and press secretary were present during the meeting.
