DHAKA, April 16, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today granted more five-day remand to retired Major Manzil Haider Chowdhury, a former DGFI official, in connection with the murder of businessman Abdul Wadud during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Police produced accused Manzil Haider Chowdhury, an official of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court after the completion of a previous three-day remand.
The Investigating Officer (IO) of the case sought another seven-day police remand for further interrogation. Following the hearing, Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Pias granted a five-day remand, marking the third phase of remand in the case.
Earlier, Chowdhury was arrested on April 9 from the DOHS area in Mohakhali. On April 10, Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam granted a four-day remand in the case. Subsequently, on April 13, the same court approved a second phase remand of three days.
According to the case records, Abdul Wadud was shot dead on July 19, 2024, at Nilkhet area under New Market Police Station during the anti-discrimination students’ movement. The case was filed by the victim’s brother-in-law Abdur Rob.
The case named 130 accused including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader. Major Manzil was an accused in the case.
