5 sentenced to life for mutilating child for begging

DHAKA, April 09, 2026 (BSS)- A Dhaka court has sentenced five people to life imprisonment and fined Taka five lakh in a case filed on charge of mutilating a child for begging.
 
The convicted will have to serve another one year of rigorous imprisonment in default to pay the fine.
 
Judge Munshi Md. Mashiur Rahman of Dhaka's Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 announced the verdict today.
 
The convicted persons are- Salauddin,30, Md. Shariful Islam alias Korban Mia, 26, Khandaker Omar Faruk, 32, Ramzan, 28, and Saddam, 24.
 
The tribunal acquitted two accused named Kausar, 32, and Nazma Akhter, 45 from the case as the charges against them were not proved.

According to the charge sheet, on September 6, 2010, the convicts abducted a seven-year-old boy from Kamrangirchar area. 

They cut off his penis and severely injured the child by hitting him with sharp weapons and bricks on different parts of his body. 

After this incident, the boy's father Umed Ali filed a CR case in a Dhaka court. The court directed Kamrangirchar police station to accept the CR case as an FIR. 
RAB investigated the case and filed charge sheet on May 15, 2011. 

During the trial the tribunal testified a total of 20 witnesses and based on their deposition the court delivered the verdict.
