DHAKA, March 31, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today placed former director general (DG) of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) Lt Gen (Retd) Sheikh Mamun Khaled on a six-day fresh remand in a case lodged over the murder of one Delwar Hossain in the capital's Mirpur area during the July Mass Uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order as police produced Khaled before the court after end of his five-day remand in the case and pleaded to place him on another seven-day remand.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddique Azad on March 26 had placed Lt Gen (Retd) Sheikh Mamun Khaled on a five-day remand.
Earlier, a team from the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detained Khaled from his Mirpur DOHS residence on the night of March 25.
According to the case documents, Delwar Hossain joined an Anti-Discrimination Student Movement rally on July 19, 2024, in front of a fruit market in the Mirpur-10 area. The rally came under attack from unidentified goons, who fired shots indiscriminately at protesters. Delwar was hit and rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on July 21.
Delwar's widow, Liza Akter, filed the case on July 6, 2025, over the incident.
