RAJSHAHI, Sept 10, 2026 (BSS) - Police have arrested seven suspected thieves and a gold trader for allegedly buying stolen goods in connection with a theft at Karushri Jewellers in Saheb Bazar, Rajshahi city.

 The Detective Branch (DB) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) conducted the operations.

One of the suspected thieves, Rustam Ali Sheikh, 64, was arrested from Khulna, while the other six were arrested from different areas of Dhaka. Based on information provided by them, police later arrested gold trader Rabiul Hasan, 45, from Dhaka.

RMP spokesperson Gaziur Rahman told a press conference today that a gang of 10 thieves broke into the jewellery shop in the early hours of June 19 and stole around 200 bhori of gold, 2,200 bhori of silver, three boxes of gold nose pins and Tk 20 lakh in cash.

Shop owner Turjo Sarker subsequently filed a case with Boalia Model Police Station.

Police recovered 26 bhori of stolen gold, 62 bhori of silver and Tk 25 lakh earned from the sale of stolen gold from Rabiul's possession.
