Two held with 3.5 tonnes of fertilizer in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 10, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Coast Guard (East Zone) has arrested two people and confiscated 35,000 kilograms of urea fertilizer that was allegedly being transported to Myanmar in the early hours of today.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, Coast Guard Media Officer, said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the Coast Guard conducted a drive at Banshbaria Ghat under Sitakunda Police Station around 1am and confiscated the agricultural inputs kept on three trucks and arrested two people.

 Sabbir Alam Sujan further said that during initial questioning, the detainees disclosed that the fertilizer had been brought to Banshbaria Ghat for subsequent shipment by boat to Myanmar.

He also said that Coast Guard operations are underway to identify and apprehend the individuals allegedly orchestrating the smuggling.
