COX’S BAZAR, Apr 15, 2026 (BSS) - Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have arrested a CNG driver with 40,000 pieces of yaba tablets during an operation in Ramu upazila of the district. 

According to a BGB press release, the drive was conducted by the Ramu Battalion (30 BGB) at the Morichya joint checkpoint based on secret information received earlier in the day.

During the operation, a suspected CNG auto-rickshaw which was travelling from Balukhali in Ukhiya to Cox’s Bazar was halted. 

The driver, identified as Md. Rubel (25), initially denied carrying any illegal goods . However BGB members, upon thorough searching, recovered 40,000 pieces of yaba pills  which were hidden under the driver’s seat.

The seized drugs are estimated at about TK 1.2 crore, officials said.

Legal action against the detainee is currently underway.

Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mahatab Uddin Ahmed, Commanding Officer of the Ramu Battalion, said the unit continues to perform its duties with professionalism along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. 

He added that alongside border security, the battalion plays a crucial role in preventing smuggling, drug trafficking, illegal infiltration, and transnational crimes.

He further emphasized that such anti-narcotics drives will continue in future to curb drug trafficking and ensure border security.
