KHULNA, Aug 5, 2026 (BSS) - Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-6 have arrested a truck driver within 24 hours in connection with a fatal road accident in Dighalia upazila of Khulna that left three people dead.

The arrested driver, Tarikul Islam, son of Monowar Hossain of Kaliganj upazila in Jhenaidah district, was apprehended during a joint drive in the Naldanga area under Kaliganj upazila late Tuesday night.

According to police, the accident occurred around 9:45 pm on July 31 on the paved road at Domra South village under Gazirhat Union when a truck collided head-on with a motorcycle.

The collision killed Farzana Khatun, wife of motorcycle rider Sihab Sheikh, his sister-in-law Rubia Khatun, and their two-year-old daughter Maymuna on the spot. Sihab Sheikh sustained serious injuries in the crash.

After the accident, the truck driver and his helper fled the scene. Agitated locals later set the truck ablaze before police brought the situation under control.

Police seized the burnt truck and the damaged motorcycle as part of the investigation.

Following completion of the initial legal formalities, the arrested driver was handed over to Kaliganj Police Station in Jhenaidah for further legal action.
