CHATTOGRAM, August 5, 2026 (BSS) - The July Mass Uprising Day-2026 was commemorated today in Chattogram and its surrounding upazilas with due solemnity, involving the laying of wreaths, prayers, and respectful remembrance of the martyrs. 

In addition to activities in Chattogram city, various factions of the BNP, Jamaat, and NCP, along with their affiliated organizations in the northern and southern districts, various socio-cultural groups, the district administration, and educational institutions, organized a variety of events to honor the occasion. 

The activities included placing floral tributes at the portrait of Shaheed Wasim, holding discussion meetings, distributing food, screening documentaries, and conducting special prayers in mosques and other religious sites. The events highlighted the laying of wreaths at the July Memorial situated in the New Market area of the city, the foundation stone ceremony for a memorial plaque in his honor near the Sholashahar railway station where Shaheed Wasim was martyred and a discussion meeting.

Besides, Qurankhwani, milad mahfil, and discussions concerning the lives and events of the July warriors were held throughout all 41 wards of the city corporation and various upazilas within the district. In the morning, numerous July Juddah members gathered at the Newmarket crossing and Sholoshahar railway station to pay their respects by laying wreaths at the portrait of Shaheed Wasim, acknowledged as the first shaheed of July 36.
 
State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs, Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, along with other officials and family members of the July martyrs, paid homage at the July Shaheed Memorial located at the city's Newmarket crossing. Special prayers and munajat were conducted, seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of the martyrs, recovery for the injured, and the ongoing peace and prosperity of the country. The day's activities began with the laying of wreaths as part of the official government programme. 

The Chattogram district administration commemorated the day with a variety of programmes, including a discussion meeting that took place in the Shilphokala auditorium area of the city today. During the event, Mir Helal stated that the government would persist in supporting the families of the July martyrs and the injured, focusing on their long-term rehabilitation and financial stability.

 The mother of Shaheed Faisal Ahmed Shanto called for swift justice, asserting that those accountable for her son's death must be prosecuted without delay. 

In addition, individuals from diverse backgrounds, including representatives from political, social, cultural, and professional organizations, paid tribute to the July martyrs by laying floral wreaths at the memorial throughout the day.
 
 Mohammad Abu Sufian, MP, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Zia Uddin, DIG of Chattogram Range Abdul Quddus, BCB Director Israfil Khasru, CDA Chairman Engineer Belayet Hossain, NCP leader Arif Moinuddin, the mother of Shaheed Faisal Ahmed Shanto, Chattogram Metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Nazrul Islam, and District Police Superintendent Masud Alam among others addressed the function.

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) observed the day through various activities, including DOA and milad mahfil, as well as discussions held across 41 wards in all its schools and colleges. The BNP in Chattogram city, encompassing both north and south districts, organized extensive programs at the upazila and union levels, which included discussions on July Mass Uprising. 

Chattogram University (CU), Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Chattogram Press Club, Chattogram University Veterinary and Animal Science University (CVASU), along with several colleges and private universities, conducted separate discussion meetings to honor the day.
