BOGURA, Aug 5, 2026 (BSS) - July Mass Uprising Day-2026 was observed today in the district with due respect through a reception for the families of martyrs and injured protesters, along with a discussion meeting.

The district administration organized the reception and discussion at Shaheed Titu Auditorium in the district town at 10 am. During the event, representatives of the administration and invited guests presented gifts to the families of those killed and to individuals injured during the July 2024 uprising.

Speaking as the chief guest, Bogura-6 Member of Parliament Md. Rezaul Karim Badsha said that the 2024 movement following the legacy of the 1952 Language Movement, the 1971 Liberation War and the 1990 anti-autocracy movement laid the foundation for building a democratic, secular and discrimination-free Bangladesh.

He said the movement's ultimate goal was to permanently eliminate fascism and build a self-reliant, production-oriented and employment-focused Bangladesh.

The lawmaker also urged the government and the administration to ensure proper medical treatment and due recognition for the families of the martyrs and for those injured in the movement who are still undergoing treatment. He called on everyone to remain united and uphold the spirit of July in building a new Bangladesh.

Presiding over the programme, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Md. Toufiqur Rahman urged people to practice self-reflection rather than blaming others and to demonstrate patriotism through actions, integrity, cleanliness and standing against injustice.

During the reception, Samiul Islam Siam, who sustained 65 bullet injuries during the July uprising, shared his experience. Recalling the violence on August 4, he said ordinary people had joined the movement not for financial gain but to establish a society free from discrimination.

Earlier in the day, as part of the observance, the district administration placed floral wreaths at the July Memorial at Satmatha in Bogura town at 9:30 am.

A day-long photography exhibition and various programmes organized by political and social organizations are also being held to mark the occasion.
