Great Victory Day celebrated in Khulna with due respect

KHULNA, Dec 16, 2025 (BSS) - The Great Victory Day-2025 was celebrated in 
Khulna with due respect and extensive programmes today.

The day began at dawn with a 31-gun salute at the Khulna Metropolitan Police 
Lines in Boyra.
 
With the sunrise, floral wreaths were placed at the Gallamari Shaheed 
Memorial. National flags were hoisted at all government, semi-government, 
autonomous and private offices and institutions while major roads and traffic 
islands of the city were decorated with national flags.

Floral tributes at the Gallamari Shaheed Memorial were paid by the Khulna 
district and metropolitan units of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Divisional 
Commissioner and KCC Administrator Md Mokhter Ahmed, Range DIG Md Rezaul 
Haque, Police Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan, Deputy Commissioner A S M 
Jamshaid Khondkar, along with representatives of government and non-
government offices, educational institutions, political parties and socio-
cultural organisations.

Divisional Commissioner Md Mokhter Ahmed formally hoisted the national flag 
in the morning at the Khulna District Stadium. 

Among others, Range DIG Md Rezaul Haque, Police Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul 
Hasan, Superintendent of Police Md Mahbub Rahman, Deputy Commissioner ASM 
Jamshaid Khondkar, freedom fighters, officials of various government 
departments, teachers and students were present during the time. 

Later, a rally, parade and displays featuring students of educational 
institutions were held. A three-day 'Victory Fair' was also inaugurated to 
mark the day.

Under the initiative of Khulna City Corporation, children's art and essay 
competitions, discussion meetings and prize distribution ceremonies were held 
at Nagar Bhaban. KCC Administrator Md Mokhter Ahmed was present as the chief 
guest at the events.

On the occasion, the Khulna Regional Information Office organised a 
discussion and a daylong photo exhibition on the Great Liberation War and the 
July Mass Uprising at Shaheed Hadis Park. 

At 11:30 am, a reception was accorded to freedom fighters, families of 
martyrs and families of wounded freedom fighters at the Khulna District 
Shilpakala Academy auditorium.

Addressing the reception as the chief guest, Divisional Commissioner Md 
Mokhter Ahmed said freedom fighters are the brave sons of the nation and 
their contribution will be remembered with respect forever. 

Presided over by Deputy Commissioner ASM Jamshaid Khondkar, the programme was 
also addressed, among others, by Range DIG Md Rezaul Haque, Police 
Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police Md 
Anisuzzaman, wartime commander Bir Muktijoddha S M Babar Ali, convener of 
Muktijoddha Sangsad metropolitan unit Bir Muktijoddha Mohammad Moniruzzaman, 
convener of district unit Md Abu Jafar, and Begum Nur Nahar, mother of July 
uprising martyr Sakib Raihan. 

Freedom fighters, wounded freedom fighters and family members of deceased 
freedom fighters were present.

Navy ships were kept open for public from 9 am to sunset at BIWTA Rocket 
Ghat. Railways, steamers, launches and ships were decorated. At district and 
upazila levels, sports events including T-20 cricket tournaments, boat races, 
football and ha-du-du, as well as cultural programmes, were organised with 
participation of students from schools, colleges and madrasas.

Documentaries on the Liberation War were screened at open venues including 
Shaheed Hadis Park, Shibbari Mor, Daulatpur Shaheed Minar, Rupsha Mor, 
Gallamari Mor and Khalishpur Mor. 

Liberation War-based films provided by the Ministry of Information and 
Broadcasting were screened free of cost for students at cinema halls from 
morning till evening. 

A photo exhibition on the Great Liberation War and the July Mass Uprising was 
also held at Shaheed Hadis Park throughout the day.

Special prayers were offered after Zuhr prayers at all mosques seeking 
eternal peace of the martyrs, good health of freedom fighters and wounded 
freedom fighters, and peace, prosperity and progress of the nation. 

Special prayers were also held at temples, churches, pagodas and other places 
of worship. Special meals were arranged at hospitals, jails, old homes, 
orphanages, day-care centres, child development centres, child families, 
street children rehabilitation centres, centres for persons with disabilities 
and vagrant institutions.

All children's parks in the city-including Gilatala Shishu Park, Khulna River 
View Park, Boyra Shishu Park, Linear Shishu Park, Ullash Amusement Park and 
Khalishpur Wonderland Park-were kept open free of cost for children from 
morning till evening. 

Cultural programmes were arranged at tourist spots. Khulna Divisional Museum 
and Southdihi Rabindra Memorial Museum at Phultala were also kept open free 
of cost for the public throughout the day.


In the afternoon, a friendly football match between KCC and District 
Administration XI was held at the Khulna District Stadium. Discussions on the 
Liberation War were organised at the mausoleum premises of Bir Shreshtha 
Ruhul Amin at Purba Rupsha Ghat. 

In the evening, prize distribution ceremonies for children's Liberation War-
based essays, recitation and art competitions, cultural programmes and poetry 
recitations by poets and writers were held.

Local newspapers published special articles, literary magazines and 
supplements on the occasion.

Bangladesh Betar, Khulna, will broadcast month-long special programmes 
highlighting the glorious history of the Liberation War. Besides, various 
political parties, socio-cultural organisations and educational institutions 
celebrated the day with separate programmes.

Meanwhile, different organisations including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, NCP, 
Islami Andolon, CPB and other political parties, educational institutions 
including Khulna University, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, 
Khulna Press Club, Metropolitan Journalist Union, Khulna Journalists Union 
and other organisations celebrated the Victory Day today through different 
programmes.
