DHAKA, Dec 22, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Embassy in Yangon on Sunday observed
the Great Victory Day with a reception programme attended by members of the
diplomatic community, eminent citizens of Myanmar and expatriate
Bangladeshis.
Heads of diplomatic missions based in Yangon, diplomats, representatives of
the United Nations and other international organisations, business leaders,
academicians, entrepreneurs and professionals joined the programme, a handout
said here today.
Speaking briefly on the occasion, Bangladesh Ambassador to Myanmar Dr. Md.
Monwar Hossain paid deep tribute to the valiant freedom fighters of the
Liberation War and to the women who were subjected to atrocities during the
struggle for independence.
He also remembered with gratitude the martyrs of the July mass uprising.
The ambassador described the Great Victory of December 16, 1971, as the most
significant achievement in Bangladesh's history.
He highlighted the role of expatriate Bangladeshis in nation-building and
mentioned various initiatives taken by the present government for their
welfare.
The embassy organised a cultural programme with the participation of members
of the embassy family and the Bangladeshi community living in Myanmar.
Earlier, as part of the first phase of the Victory Day celebrations on
December 16, 2025, the national flag was hoisted with the national anthem, a
one-minute silence was observed in memory of the martyrs of the Liberation
War, messages from the President, the Chief Adviser and the Foreign Affairs
Adviser were read out, followed by the screening of a documentary and a
discussion session.
