KHULNA, Dec 31, 2025 (BSS) - Textbook distribution at the school level will begin in Khulna from tomorrow, with schools set to hand over newly arrived books to students on the first day of the academic year.
All required textbooks for the primary level have already reached schools.
Although distribution will begin on the first day of the year, there will be no formal book distribution festival this time.
According to officials of the Secondary and Higher Education Department, Khulna region, a total of 21,174,095 textbooks were required for 3,019 secondary-level institutions, including schools and madrasas, in the division. Of these, 14,821,867 books have so far arrived.
Md Kamruzzaman, acting deputy director of the Secondary and Higher Education Department, Khulna region, said teachers will distribute the available textbooks locally among students.
"There will be no official ceremony for book distribution this year. Around 70 to 80 percent of the textbooks have already arrived, and more are coming in truckloads. We hope students will get all textbooks within the first week of January," he said, adding that the quality of books has improved this year.
Omar Faruk, an assistant teacher of Government Coronation Secondary Girls' School, said all primary-level textbooks have been received, while about 40 percent of books for other classes have arrived. Mohammad Farukul Islam, headmaster of Khulna Zilla School, said his school has already received around 80 percent of the new textbooks.
Meanwhile, Khulna District Primary Education Officer Sheikh Ahidul Alam said there is no shortage of textbooks at the primary level.
"All books have reached primary schools, and distribution will begin tomorrow in every primary school," he added.
According to the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), the total demand for printed textbooks for the 2026 academic year has been fixed at 302,255,154 copies. Of them, 117,046,461 are for the primary level and 183,208,693 for the secondary level.
By education stream, 229,200,262 books are for general education, 72,594,352 for madrasa education and 7,568,540 for technical education.
