CUMILLA, Nov 27, 2025 (BSS) - A nine-day book fair will begin tomorrow in Cumilla under the joint initiative of the district administration and the National Book Center.

The fair will run from November 28 to December 6 and will remain open daily from 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Cumilla Town Hall Maidan.

Deputy Commissioner Md Reza Hasan made the announcement on Thursday morning at a press conference. 

Officials said a discussion meeting will be held to mark the inauguration of the fair on Friday at 3:30 pm.

Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, will inaugurate the event as the chief guest, with Deputy Commissioner Reza Hasan in the chair. Senior officials from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the National Book Center and local dignitaries are expected to attend.

Organisers said cultural programmes featuring performances by renowned artists will be held every evening during the fair.

The closing ceremony will be held on December 6 at 3:30 pm and will include a discussion session, award distribution and cultural performances.

Dr Neyamat Ullah Bhuiyan, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, will attend as the chief guest.

A total of 94 organisations-including 74 prominent Dhaka-based publishing houses, 10 government agencies and 10 private organisations-will participate in the fair. One hundred stalls have been set up at the Town Hall grounds.

The press conference was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Saiful Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Human Resource Development) Sultana Razia, Publishing Club President Kazi Enamul Haque Faruk, and journalists from various print and electronic media.
