RAJSHAHI, Dec 11, 2025 (BSS) - An eight-day Book Fair began at Rajshahi University (RU) campus today for the second consecutive year, aiming to promote reading habits among students and the general public from an early age.
Organized by the RU authority, the fair is taking place at the premises of the Shahidullah Arts Building.
RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Saleh Hassan Naqib inaugurated the fair this noon as the chief guest, emphasizing that reading books is indispensable for building a happy and prosperous Bangladesh. "Only through books can people be enlightened and become complete," he said.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Mayeen Uddin and Professor Emeritus Dr AKM Azharul Islam also spoke at the inauguration, with Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Khan in the chair.
Prof Naqib highlighted the importance of making books easily accessible to readers, saying they help people gain knowledge about the outside world. He also stressed the role of easy and creative books in the mental development of children.
A total of 78 stalls have been set up by various publishers, displaying a wide range of books.
The fair will remain open for all from 10 am to 8 pm daily until December 18. Alongside the book exhibition, cultural and literary programs on different themes will be held every evening at the venue.
