Commerce Ministry cancels BAMA licence, orders merger with BCPA

DHAKA, Sept 10, 2026 (BSS)- The Commerce Ministry has cancelled the licence of the Bangladesh Agrochemical Manufacturers Association (BAMA), four years after it was granted, and ordered the manufacturers' organisation to merge with the Bangladesh Crop Protection Association (BCPA), the trade body representing agrochemical importers.

The ministry issued a gazette notification on Wednesday, saying a single organisation representing businesses involved in the pesticide sector would be more appropriate as the two organisations have similar objectives.

According to the gazette, most members of BAMA had previously been members of the BCPA, while many of them still remain members of the latter organisation.

The ministry said the existence of multiple trade organisations in the same sector was creating obstacles to the import, production, distribution and marketing of pesticides.
