DHAKA, Sept 10, 2026 (BSS) - Stocks today extended losing streak in the final trading session of the week as subdued investor confidence persisted amid concerns over the ongoing energy crisis and uncertainty ahead of the upcoming earnings season.
The DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), fell 22.7 points, or 0.41 percent, to 5,515 points, compared with 5,538 points in the previous session.
The market opened on a positive note, but the momentum failed to sustain as selling pressure resurfaced across the trading board. The selling intensified during the final hour, eventually pushing the benchmark index deeper into negative territory.
Meanwhile, market turnover increased 4.7 percent to Tk 5.4 billion, from Tk 5.2 billion in the previous trading session.
Among the sectors, Textile stocks accounted for the highest share of turnover at 24.7 percent, followed by General Insurance at 19.1 percent and Bank at 10.0 percent.
Almost all sectors posted negative returns. Services (-1.6 percent), Life Insurance (-1.5 percent) and Financial Institutions (-1.3 percent) registered the steepest corrections.
In contrast, Mutual Fund was the only sector to post a significant positive return, gaining 3.5 percent.
Of the 395 issues traded, 100 advanced, 230 declined and 65 remained unchanged, indicating broad-based selling pressure in the market.
The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also closed in negative territory. Its Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) declined by 14.8 points, while the All Share Price Index (CASPI) fell by 1.9 points.
