DHAKA, Sept 10, 2026 (BSS) – The government has granted administrative approval to increase the bed capacity of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura from 1,200 to 1,800.
In this regard, the Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recently issued a notification signed by Deputy Secretary of the Health Services Division Kazi Sharif Uddin Ahmed.
On September 1, the Finance Division gave its consent to a proposal to increase the hospital's bed capacity from 1,200 to 1,800.
The consent was issued by the Expenditure Management Wing-2 of the Finance Division in response to a proposal submitted by the Health Services Division on August 4, 2026.
The Finance Division's consent letter stated that it had agreed to increasing the number of beds at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital from 1,200 to 1,800 and launching healthcare services in the additional beds.
The approval, however, was granted on the condition that all relevant laws, regulations, formalities and government procedures would be duly followed.
Following the Finance Division's consent, the Health Services Division subsequently granted administrative approval for the expansion.
The Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and the Director of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital have been asked to take the necessary steps to implement the order.
Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital is one of the major government healthcare facilities in northern Bangladesh.
A large number of patients from Bogura and surrounding districts, as well as other parts of the northern region, seek advanced treatment at the hospital.
The hospital is particularly relied upon for the treatment of complex diseases, emergency care and specialised medical services.
Copies of the Finance Division's consent letter were sent to the Secretary of the Health Services Division, the concerned deputy secretary, the additional secretary of the Finance Division and other relevant officials.
Copies of the administrative approval issued by the Health Services Division were also sent to the Secretary of the Finance Division and other concerned offices.
The successive decisions by the two government divisions have completed the administrative process for revising the hospital's bed capacity and launching healthcare services in the newly approved beds.
