BOGURA, Sept 10, 2026 (BSS) - District Detective Branch (DB) police have rescued 103 parakeets being transported in plastic cages inside the side compartment of a passenger bus in Bogura.
The birds were later released in the presence of officials from the Forest Department.
The parakeets were rescued on Wednesday after police searched an Al Bakara Travels bus travelling from Naogaon to Dhaka in the Thanthania area of Bogura town.
Bogura District Police Media Spokesperson and Additional Superintendent of Police Ataur Rahman confirmed the matter this morning.
According to the police official, acting on information, that several bird traders were transporting a large number of parakeets with the intention of smuggling them abroad, a team of DB police, led by Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police of Shibganj Circle Robiul Islam, conducted a search of the bus in the Thanthania area.
During the search, police found 10 plastic cages inside the bus's side compartment. A total of 103 parakeets were found confined in the cages and subsequently rescued.
The birds were later handed over to the Forest Department officials and released.
