DHAKA, Sept 10, 2026 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman today said the government will not interfere in the practice of free and independent journalism.

"The government has no intention of interfering in the media or in the professional duties of journalists," he told the 31st founding anniversary celebration of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on its premises here.

LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Prime Minister's Political Adviser and BNP's acting Secretary General Md Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, State Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Habibur Rashid, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury, State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque, Principal Information Officer (PIO) Syed Abdal Ahmed and senior journalist Shafik Rehman, leaders of various political parties, journalists' organizations, social and cultural organizations also spoke on the occasion.  

Andaleeve Rahman said democracy is flourishing in the country because of the robust role of the media.

He said media is an equal partner in democratic progression and development of the country.

Marking the DRU anniversary, national and organizational flags were hoisted atop the DRU building in the morning followed by the release of balloons and doves symbolizing peace. 

A colorful procession and cake-cutting ceremony were held afterward.

DRU President Abu Saleh Akon chaired the programme which was moderated by General Secretary Mynul Hasan Sohel.
