RANGPUR, Sept 3, 2026 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP), the agency investigating the murders of four members of the same family, including a retired schoolteacher, has sent evidence found at the scene for forensic analysis. 

RpMP Deputy Commissioner (DB) Sanatan Chakraborty confirmed the matter to BSS tonight. 

He said the CID collected 35 pieces of evidence from the scene while recovering the bodies of schoolteacher Ganapati Chakraborty, his wife, daughter and son from their house in the Machhuapara area of the city on August 22. 

The collected evidence was sent to the CID's forensic laboratory in Dhaka.

Sanatan Chakraborty said that following the proper procedure as per the court's orders, all the evidence obtained from the CID in three stages over the last two days has been sent to the CID's forensic laboratory. 

Depending on the forensic test results, DNA samples from the arrested accused Siddhartha Das and Mugdha Das, who are in jail, will be collected.

Special Superintendent of Police of the CID's Rangpur office Sumit Chowdhury said that 35 pieces of evidence were collected from the scene while recovering the four bodies under the leadership of CID expert Inspector Md Millat on the night of August 22. Later, the evidence was handed over to the investigation officer. 

Gopinath Chakraborty, the elder brother of deceased Ganapati Chakraborty, filed a murder case with RpMP's Kotwali Police Station in connection with this incident on August 23. 

Neighbours of the deceased, Mugdha Das and Siddhartha Das, were arrested from the same area in this connection. The two accused gave confessional statements before Rangpur Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Md Rafiqul Islam over the murders. 

DB Officer-in-Charge Inspector Md Zinnat Ali is currently investigating the case.
