DHAKA, Sept 3, 2026 (BSS)- Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today said the country’s overall law and order has improved significantly compared to the past with the reports of declining several major crimes.

“Analysis of available data shows a significant improvement in the overall law and order,” he said while briefing journalists after a meeting with representatives of the Saad faction of Tabligh Jamaat at the Home Ministry.  

The minister said compiled police data showed a decline in crimes including murder, abduction and violence against women.

He attributed the improvement to the continued efforts of law enforcement agencies, saying the government remains committed to ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order across the country.

Referring to the recent death of a female teacher in a mugging incident in the capital, Ahmed said police arrested the prime suspect within 12 hours of the incident.

The motorcycle allegedly used in the crime was seized, while other materials linked to the incident were also confiscated and handed over to the court, he said.

The Home Minister said internal intelligence and monitoring mechanisms within law enforcement agencies remain active to ensure accountability.

“If any specific allegation of negligence or non-cooperation by a member of the forces is found, it will be investigated and necessary action will be taken,” he said.

Ahmed reiterated that the government is closely monitoring the country’s law and order and will continue taking measures to make public safety and stability stronger and more sustainable.

State Minister for Religious Affairs Mohammad Shamim Kaiser attended the meeting as a special guest.
