RANGAMATI, Aug 29, 2026 (BSS) - Four stranded tourists who lost their way in Sitapahar area of Kaptai in Rangamati were rescued safely on Friday evening through a joint operation involving the Fire Service, Forest Department and local administration.

Kaptai Range Officer of the Chattogram Hill Tracts South Forest Division Mamunur Rahman confirmed the matter to BSS, saying the tourists were rescued in a safe and healthy condition at around 7:30pm on Friday.

The four tourists, who had come from Chattogram, crossed the Karnaphuli River through the Baluchar area of Kaptai and began their journey toward Sitapahar on Friday morning. Later, rain made the hilly trails slippery, and as darkness fell, they lost their way.

After authorities were informed, members of the Fire Service, Forest Department and local administration launched a joint search and rescue operation. The tourists were eventually located and brought to safety around 7:30pm.

Kaptai Fire Service Senior Station Officer Shahadat Hossain also confirmed the rescue operation. He said the tourists had gone to Sitapahar after crossing the Karnaphuli River through Baluchar to enjoy Kaptai's natural beauty, but lost their way while returning.

He said Fire Service personnel, in cooperation with the Forest Department and upazila administration, conducted the operation and successfully rescued all four tourists. All of them were safe and in good health, he added.
