JHENAIDAH, Aug 29, 2026 (BSS) - Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman said the government will decide whether Bangladesh will join the Mecca Pact after considering all aspects of the matter.

He made the remarks today while responding to questions from journalists after attending a reception for meritorious students of Jhenaidah Collectorate School and College as the chief guest.

Deputy Commissioner Md Noman Hossain presided over the programme, while the Prime Minister's Political Assistant Rashed Khan attended as the special guest.

The law minister said India would act according to its foreign policy, while Bangladesh would follow its own policy. "India will move like India, and Bangladesh will move like Bangladesh," he added.

Regarding the country's law and order situation, Asaduzzaman said the issue was not whether the government was satisfied with the situation, but that the government was making relentless efforts to maintain normalcy.

He said the government and the Ministry of Law are also working to introduce e-judiciary, aimed at digitalising the country's judicial system.

The government has a plan to implement the e-judiciary system within the next year, he added.

District BNP President M A Majid, General Secretary Zahiduzzaman Mona, Vice-President Munshi Kamal Azad Pannu, Joint General Secretary Abdul Majid Biswas and Shailkupa upazila BNP General Secretary Humayun Babar Firoz, among other BNP leaders and activists of its affiliated organisations, attended the reception.
