KHULNA, Sept 2, 2026 (BSS) - A seminar titled "Public Health Research and Higher Education Opportunities" was held at Khulna University (KU) today, focusing on public health research, the role of statistics and opportunities for higher education.

The Statistics Discipline of KU organised the seminar at the Journalist Liaquat Ali Auditorium this morning.

KU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim attended the programme as the chief guest.

Addressing the seminar, he said statistics plays a crucial role in analysing and effectively presenting research findings, while it is now closely integrated with data science.

He said KU is emphasising collaboration with institutions and researchers at home and abroad to broaden the scope of its research activities.

"MoUs have already been signed to strengthen research collaboration with industries, and activities in this regard are progressing," he said.

The vice-chancellor urged the university's academic disciplines to take greater initiatives to disseminate KU's research findings internationally.

He also called on the Statistics Discipline to organise international conferences, saying such events would help strengthen networking with researchers at home and abroad and provide opportunities to showcase the university's research and achievements globally.

Prof Rezaul thanked the Statistics Discipline for organising the seminar and stressed the need to arrange such programmes regularly.

KU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Harunur Rashid Khan attended the event as a special guest.

Professor Dr Uttam Kumar Majumder, head of the Statistics Discipline, chaired the programme, while Assistant Professor Dr Sharlin Alauddin delivered the welcome address.

Professor Hafiz T.A. Khan, Professor of Public Health Statistics at the University of West London, UK; Professor Dr ABM Alauddin Chowdhury of the Department of Public Health under the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at Daffodil International University; and Mostafa Ashrafuzzaman, joint director of the Demography and Health Wing of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), spoke as resource persons.

The speakers discussed various aspects of public health research, research prospects and higher education opportunities. They highlighted the importance of statistics in public health research, opportunities for international higher education and research, and the steps students should take to build careers in the field.

Teachers, students of the Statistics Discipline and other concerned persons attended the seminar.
